Tarran Mackenzie takes 12 point lead into final round at Brands Hatch

Lexelle-sponsored Tarran Mackenzie produced a solid weekend in Assen to ensure he goes into the final two races of the season with a 12 point lead in the Dickies British Supersport Championship.

It didn’t start well though as a technical problem caused Tarran to fall heavily in the first practice.

Apart from trashing a suit and helmet he survived with only a few bumps and bruises.

His qualifying session also proved tricky as he was caught out with the wet tyres fitted on a quickly drying track.

One more lap of practice would have been enough but he ran out of time so had to settle for 18th position on the grid for Saturday’s sprint race.

Undeterred he charged through the pack to eventually finish fifth at the chequered flag.

His fast pace also gave him a good lap time placing him third place on the grid for Sunday’s feature race.

This was held in wet, slippery conditions but Tarran managed his race perfectly, finishing in third position while setting the fastest lap on the final lap.

“Assen was a weekend of challenges but my bike has improved even more from Donington thanks to an outstanding effort from my WD40 Stauff Connect Academy team,” Tarran said.

“Extending my championship lead was my main goal so as always I’ll give it my best again at Brands Hatch in two weeks time.”

Taylor also had a great weekend taking part in the Dutch Superbike support race.

Running his usual Buildbase BMW S1000RR, only this time on slick tyres, he qualified in pole position and won the 14 lap race comfortably by five seconds.

“I had a fun weekend with no Championship to think about but I still put my outing in the Dutch Championship to good use for the future,” Taylor said.

“I had no real competition in the race so I stayed safe and consistent throughout the 14 laps.

“Although I have already won the British Superstock 1000 Championship I’ll still be pushing hard to win the final race at Brands Hatch in two weeks time.”
