It was a dramatic weekend at Brands Hatch for Lexelle-sponsored riders Taylor and Tarran Mackenzie.

A crash in qualifying saw Tarran’s McAMS Yamaha R1 dig into the gravel and flip spectacularly over the barrier. Thankfully he was unhurt, but the bike required a complete re-build before Race 1, just 3 hours later. An 11th place finish and fifth fastest lap in Race 1 secured a second row spot on the grid for Race 2. Finishing in fourth, this was his best result since breaking his wrist at Thruxton earlier in the year. The final race of the weekend brought more challenges, but he battled through to finish 6th. With a final championship placing in fifth, it was a tough end to the 2019 season.

Speaking afterwards, Tarran commented: “The first race today was really good, I felt like I was back to how I’ve been during the year. The feeling with the bike I had allowed me to ride it how I wanted to ride it, it gave me good feedback and good confidence during the race. I was happy with that, but for race two we made a change that I wanted to make, it could have gone either way, I thought it’d make it better but it didn’t and I didn’t have a very strong end to the race! It wasn’t the greatest result but I’m happy. I’d have taken a fourth and a sixth coming into this weekend as it’s a good way to end what’s been a tough season!”

Taylor was also racing in the British Superbike Championship at the weekend, having already clinched second place in the Pirelli Superstock 1000 Championship. Riding the Tyco BMW Superbike he took 10th in Race 1 and 2, and 11th in Race 3, a solid end to the season.
