The fourth round of the 2021 National Superstock 1000 Championship proved to be one full of frustration and disappointment for Bathams Racing.

Throughout the weekend, the team never

found an ideal set up on the BMW M1000RR for Taylor Mackenzie to cope with the unique demands of the Thruxton circuit. The result being that Mackenzie was consistently one second off the pace of the leaders in all sessions, and in the highly competitive Superstock 1000 class, it is enough of a deficit to mean the team were battling to make the top ten all weekend.

In the races, Mackenzie crashed out unhurt on Saturdays Race 1 while trying to push through through from a qualifying position of 14th, and finished Sundays Race 2 in 9th position which was enough to keep in touch in the overall championship standings just 20 points behind the lead.

Donington Park is the next round, and marks the halfway point of the season where everyone in the team will be looking to bounce back and once again fight for podiums.

Meanwhile, Bathams Racing would like to extend it’s deepest sympathies to the friends and families of the volunteer marshal who lost his life at Brands Hatch at the weekend. It is impossible to overstate just how important all the marshals are who give up their time to make it possible for us all to race in the safest possible conditions. Without them, there is no racing.

Mackenzie – Race 1: DNF/Race 2: P10 – Championship P3 “That was tough, we were on the back foot most of the weekend which wasn’t for the lack of trying by everyone in the team. Try as we might, we just couldn’t settle on a set up that worked, but we made it through in one piece and still in touch in the championship, and next it’s on to Donington Park which should be better for us.

Rutter – DNS: “I could say that we were unlucky with the weather, or the decisions we made about the set up of the bike, but the truth is that we just didn’t make the right decisions at the right time to find the last second of pace. It’s as simple as that.

It wasn’t for the lack of trying. The whole team and our technical partners at K-Tech Suspension and BMW Motorrad put a massive amount to time and energy over the weekend into finding the right direction to go with the bike, and Taylor rode the wheels off it. But we just never quite unlocked the last bit of pace from the bike.

This is racing, God knows I’ve been around long enough to know that when it’s just not happening for you, the trick is to get out in one piece and with as many points as you can and move on to the next one”.
