World superbike star Alex Lowes will wear Lexelle’s Captain Cover badge as he makes his MotoGP debut at Silverstone this weekend.
Lowes is to replace the injured Bradley Smith at the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team for both Silverstone and the following Misano round.
Smith suffered right knee ligament injuries at the Oschersleben World Endurance finale.
Lowes had ridden a MotoGP bike – the same Tech 3 machine he will now race – a few days earlier at the Brno post-race test, as a reward for his part in this year’s Yamaha Suzuka 8 Hours victory.
The 25-year-old says it is a dream come true to be lining up alongside the likes of Rossi, Lorenzo and Marquez.
“First of all, I just want to say how sorry I am to hear of Bradley’s injury,” Lowes added.
“It sounds like he has been extremely unlucky and I hope he gets well soon. With regards to me getting this opportunity, of course it’s genuinely a dream come true.
“I’m sure that I’ll have to pinch myself on Sunday when I’m sitting on the starting grid with Rossi, Lorenzo, Marquez etc.
“However, I have no expectations at this point. I simply want to learn as much as I can from everyone around me.
“I personally want to thank everyone at Yamaha and Tech3 for giving me this opportunity.”
