Lexelle-sponsored Alex Lowes claimed a brace of top-six finishes as his upturn in form continued in the World Superbike Championship at Donington Park.

Lowes, pictured left, once again outclassed his Voltcom Crescent Suzuki team-mate, former Moto2 rider Randy De Puniet, who was 14th in both of the races on 24th May.

The Lincolnshire Echo reports that Lowes was fifth for much of the first race, but was hit by a lack of grip in the closing stages and was passed by the Ducati of Davide Giugliano.

The 24-year-old was briefly up to third in race two before again fading in the closing stages.

However, two sixth places and a 20-point haul represented a fine weekend for Lowes, who has moved up to eighth in the overall standings.

“I was struggling with grip in both races and with some confidence on corner entry which lost me some time, but the second race felt better,” he told the Lincolnshire Echo.

“We’ve made some big steps forward, so now we’ve got something to build on to keep improving further for the next race.

“I did all I could and the team did a fantastic job, and as ever the support here was great.

“I always enjoy racing at Donington and to fight a bit with the top guys, get two consistent finishes and some solid points was good.”

Crescent Racing team boss Paul Denning was delighted with Lowes’ results.

“Alex’s two sixth places were great results, backed up by a solid fifth on the grid,” he said.

“Taking race two as an example, we were only beaten by the factory Kawasakis, factory Ducatis, and Leon (Haslam) on the factory Aprilia, so we have to put the result into context.”

Both races were won by Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes. His team-mate and championship leader Jonathan Rea was second in both races.

The next round takes place in Portugal on 7th June.
