Lexelle-sponsored Taylor and Tarran Mackenzie both suffered technical problems on the opening round of the British Superbike Championship at Donington Park.
Saturday’s practice round went well for the pair but bad luck reared its ugly head on Sunday.
Taylor lost out on quality track time in qualifying on Sunday after being unable to complete a lap due to technical problmems.
Tarran was looking good for the front row but a stranded bike thwarted his best lap and he had to settle for seventh place on the grid for Monday’s race.
Dad Niall, a former British Superbike champion, said: “Saturday’s free practice went well with both boys making excellent progress throughout the day. Tarran found some good settings on his ZX6RR Kawasaki and Taylor finished the day on a high saying he finally felt at home on the Superbike.
“On Sunday Tarran was on a potential front row qualifying lap when the final qualifying session was red flagged due to a bike stranded on the track.
“With only three minutes left at the restart he couldn’t find space so he was 7th on the grid for Monday’s race.
“Taylor was even more unlucky as he didn’t complete one lap on Sunday after some mystery gremlins infiltrated the electrics on his bike.
“These things happen but being new to the Superbike class he lost much needed quality track time.
“Things didn’t improve greatly on race day as although he started both races, he had to pull in each time when his bike lost power.
“This of course was a disaster but I can honestly say the WD40 Team did everything they could and worked non stop attempting to fix the problems.
“This week Taylor’s bike will be rebuilt completely from scratch with all new parts, to make sure everything is perfect for the next round at Brands Hatch.
“Tarran’s all new bike also decided to have a mystery electrical issue and cut out completely in the race day warm up.
“With little time before the race it was thoroughly checked over and although no problem was found Taz said it didn’t feel quite as sharp when he lined up for the race. He eventually finished 8th but by this time we were just relieved to secure some championship points to build on from the second round.
“Maybe I was bad in a previous life or I used all the good luck up in my own career! Roll on Brands Hatch!”
