Round 3 of the National Superstock 1000 Championship at Brands Hatch was another race weekend with two races for Bathams Racing and Taylor Mackenzie.

With everyone keen to make up for the DNF at the last round in Knockhill, the weekend didn’t get off to the best start with a technical issue cutting the first practice session short for Mackenzie. In the second practice session Mackenzie produced a series of promising lap times and valuable feedback that the team were unable to gain in the first session.

Qualifying was in mixed conditions, and with the track drying quicker than expected, Mackenzie qualified in 13th position on the 5th row.

In the dry “Race 1”, he came through to finish on the podium in third position and set a lap time good enough to claim a front row start for race 2 the following day. In the second race Mackenzie was part of a group of riders who broke away and he finished fourth to claim valuable championship points and close the gap on the championship leader.

Mackenzie – Race 1: P3/Race 2: P4 – Championship P2 “That was a really challenging race weekend for everyone in the team. We had a technical issue with the bike, then I was on the wrong tyre for the last bit of qualifying that meant I gave myself some extra work to do in the race. But we worked away at it, and came away with some really good points for the championship.

Hats off the team in the garage for putting a massive shift in this weekend. I’m happy for them that after all their effort i was able to get a podium and close the gap on the championship lead.

It’s straight to Thruxton now, which is a mega circuit, it’s been ages since we were there, so I can’t wait to get out there on my bike”

Rutter – DNS: “Massive thanks to everyone in the team for coming away this weekend with a 3rd and 4th. It could easily have been a disaster for us, but they were all brilliant and worked so hard…………..expertly supervised by me”.
