It was a testing weekend for Alex Lowes at the first ever FIM World Superbike fixture in Argentina and the penultimate round of the 2018 season.
Starting sixth on the grid for Race 1, he opened well and worked his way up to fourth place. But problems with his rear tyre meant a lack of speed coming out of the turns and he was unable to keep up with the race leaders. He crossed the line in seventh place.
Lowes made a promising start to Race 2 and initially kept contact with the leading pack. A drawn out battle for fourth with Chaz Davies and Marco Melandri ultimately proved too much however, and he was pushed back to sixth place on the line.
The Lexelle-sponsored rider is now sixth in the overall standings with 232 points. The final round of the championship takes place in Dohar, Qatar,25 – 27 October.
