TrafficA new report has revealed that the worst drivers for causing crashes are surgeons and doctors, who are 100 times more likely to cause an “at fault” accident at the wheel than a building society clerk.

The data, complied by Moneysupermarket.com, found that nine of the ten occupations that cause the most accidents on the road are medical workers.

Top of the list with the prize of worst drivers in Britain are surgeons.

The Telegraph reports that for every 1,000 surgeons who drive a car, a total of 361 made an at fault claim over the past five years.

In second place were GPs, who made 333 at-fault claims and in stark contrast building society clerks have made four claims in every 1,000 since 2009.

Other occupations connected to healthcare profession in the top ten include nurses, hospital consultants and dental surgeons.

Kevin Pratt, a car insurance expert at Moneysupermarket, said that the top ten is dominated by “stressful occupations”, which could be the reason why surgeons and doctors are most accident prone drivers.

“There is no doubt that surgeons, GPs and health visitors are all stressful jobs, so lack of time or tiredness could mean that these drivers are more likely to make an at fault claim,” Mr Pratt told The Telegraph.

At the other end of the table other safe driver professions named are order clerks, funfair employees, a typist and a car wash attendant.
