Mackenzie brothers take on challenges in big Donington weekend

Tarran Mackenzie in action at BSB Castle Donington

Three days of racing at Castle Donington brought a podium finish, a technical malfunction and heavy rain for the Lexelle-sponsored riders.

Technical glitch for Taylor Mackenzie

Practice went well for Taylor Mackenzie in the Superstock 1000 class, qualifying second on the grid for Race 1. However, his gear shifter malfunctioned after only a few laps, forcing him to change gear manually for the rest of the race. Despite this he secured a fifth place finish, gaining solid championship points. Race 2 brought a disappointing seventh place, but there were better results from Race 3 with Taylor finishing in fourth.

Commenting afterwards, Taylor said: “I expected better results at Donington, but I still grabbed good points. My Bathams BMW is normally ultra reliable so we were simply unlucky with the technical issue. I still came home happy as lots of riders had worse weekends than me. We win and lose as a team so it’s onwards and upwards at Brands Hatch in three weeks time.”

Podium finish for Tarran Mackenzie in Race 1

Tarran Mackenzie had a good start to the weekend, with a second place finish in Race 1, less than a second behind leader Scott Redding. Race 2 was going well, with Tarran in fifth position and starting to pick off the riders ahead of him, when the heavens opened and the race was stopped early. He was unlucky to miss out on another podium in Race 3 when he was pipped at the last corner by Tommy Bridewell, finishing fourth.

He said afterwards: “I’m happy I had strong pace all weekend and once again learned loads with my riding and how to improve my bike over the weekend. Scott Redding was always going to be hard to beat here but I wasn’t far away from his pace so I’ve got to be happy with my overall performance. I’m buzzing for the next round at Brands so it can’t come so enough!”

Both brothers will be testing on the Knockhill track on 10th June before the next championship event at Brands Hatch on 14th – 16th June.
