It was a podium place for Lowes in the final race of 2018 at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar.
After a tremendous Superpole performance, Lowes started from the front row of the grid for Race 1. He was immediately thrust into a battle for third with Eugene Laverty that lasted until the final laps of the race. Laverty edged ahead at the start but Lowes reclaimed third place on lap seven. Two laps later the positions reversed and stayed that way until the final lap.
As the riders tussled for position, both struggled to maintain grip, Lowes with the rear, Laverty with the front. But Lowes managed to find a gap and fought his way through into third and a place on the podium.
After such a successful Race 1, it was disappointing that Race 2 had to be cancelled after a severe rain and sand storm led to deteriorating track conditions.
This was the fourth podium of the 2018 season for the Lexelle-sponsored rider, putting him in sixth overall with 248 points.
