Lexelle-sponsored Taylor Mackenzie claims he is starting to master riding a Superbike and can take positives away from his performance at Brands Hatch in week two of the BSB Championship.

Throughout free practice and qualifying Taylor’s pace and feeling with his bike improved and he eventually qualified 23rd, just 0.7s from pole position.

The nature of the Brands Hatch Indy circuit means lap times are always close and incredibly 0.1 of a second would have put him 12th on the grid.

More importantly he became even more comfortable and confident on his WD40 Kawasaki which ran perfectly over the two days.

After a decent start in race one, Taylor was taken out by another rider who should have know better on the third lap, wrecking his bike and any chance of a result.

The mechanics only got his bike ready minutes before race two but with no qualifying lap time this meant he had to start at the back of the grid.

He fought his way through to 28th at the chequered flag and matched his fastest lap time of the weekend despite being hampered by a sticking throttle that was damaged in the crash.

“Overall I had a good Brands Hatch as I enjoyed loads of quality track time and I’m slowly mastering riding a Superbike,” Taylor said.

“I made big steps but there is still lots to come.”

It was a great week for fellow Lexelle-sponsored rider and brother Tarran Mackenzie who recorded a third place finish after qualifying fourth on the grid on his Stauff Connect Academy 600 Kawasaki.

“I really got my season going properly at Brands Hatch as we made another step forward with the handling of my bike.

“I felt strong all weekend and I think my result could have been even better had I got off the line better when our race was restarted.

“I matched the new lap record pace on quite a few laps and grabbing 3rd spot on the last lap finished off my weekend nicely.”

The result moves Tarran into fourth place in the 600cc Championship.

Both boys will test at Oulton Park this Friday ahead of the third round on May 2-4.
