Just like Brands Hatch last time out, it was another new track for Daniel to learn in Thruxton for round 5 of the British Talent Cup.
The first free practice session got underway on Friday morning, with Daniel struggling with changing gear, which was affecting his speed. He quickly figured out his quick shifter wasn’t working, but he still managed to complete 16 laps with his best time coming in at 1:26.849, placing him 21st.
In the second and final free practice session of the weekend, Daniel pushed harder to improve his lap times, posting his best on the 4th lap of the session, coming in at 1:26.690.
On Saturday morning, Daniel was on the track, ready for the qualifying session. Daniel again managed 16 laps and also managed to improve his best time by 1.5 seconds, coming in at 1:25.168 and in 20th.
Race 1 got underway shortly after, and starting in 20th, Daniel was battling it out in a group ranging from 16th to 22nd. After a strong battle throughout, Daniel struggled to really make any ground and finish where he started in 20th.
Race 2 got underway on Sunday afternoon, and it was a familiar story for Daniel. Throughout the race, he was the leader of a group ranging from 12th to 19th. However, going into the last corner of the last lap, the riders behind Daniel gained slipstream on him to overtake, meaning Daniel crossed the line in 18th and just outside the scoring zone.
This is what Daniel had to say on his weekend:
“I was looking forward to Thruxton and it didn’t disappoint, again another new track to learn, but I improved my lap times over the weekend by 2.8 seconds.
I enjoyed the battles in both races, but sadly coming home with no points this weekend”.
We’ll next see Daniel in just under a month and back at Donington Park, which is where he made his debut earlier in the year. Good luck, Daniel.
