Whilst Motor Insurance has shot up in price over the last few years, Motor Legal has seen little increase in overall costs. Yet despite this, as money is tight customers may look to drop this ancillary product to try and keep costs down. But is this a wise choice?

Unlike the main motor insurance there is no legal requirement for Legal Expenses Insurance, but in the event of a non-fault claim this cover can undoubtedly prove its worth.

Think about it, when a customer has a non-fault claim, they should not have to suffer any loss as the responsible party’s insurers should reimburse them, but how easy is that in practice? Insurers rarely prioritise paying out third parties, making pursuing your excess, hire costs and loss of earnings an arduous task.

Also, if your customer is unfortunate enough to suffer a personal injury, who is there to help? Yes, they may be able to pursue a small claim themselves via the injury portal, but that is far from straight forward, such that most don’t seem to bother.

Where a more serious injury is sustained, they may approach a solicitor for help but that will likely result in them giving up some of their damages and paying for an After the Event Insurance cover. That is assuming the injury is enough to make it worth the solicitors while in the first place.

However, if they have the Legal Expenses Insurance, this is all taken forward for them via their in house claim handlers or instructed solicitors, with any costs being covered by the policy.

Of course, Motor Legal Expenses is more than a one trick pony, with many cover levels including additional areas of assistance. For example, cover to defend a motoring prosecution or to resolve issues caused by having their car registration cloned.

At Lexelle, we have a number of policy options with different cover levels to suit all your motoring clients, from personal motor/motorcycles to commercial vehicle fleets. We can even fit in with your existing FNOL and claims management arrangements to make the transition to Lexelle as simple as possible.
