After a tough trial 2 weeks ago at Hookwoods, battling injury and a different bike, Carrie was back to her normal self and on her usual bike. This time round, it was the Manx 2-day trial, a premier clubman event in the UK trials calendar, taking place on the Isle of Man. Carrie was hoping for some redemption this year as she was forced to retire on day 2 with her bike failing to start.
With Carrie being one of the last out on Saturday morning at 9:40 am, it gave her plenty of time to get herself and the bike prepared for the day ahead. Carrie’s nerves were quickly settled as she got through the first section and enjoyed being back on a much-familiar bike. Despite the heat, Carrie managed to have an impressive ride, navigating her way through some tough sections while scoring perfect scores. Carrie finished day 1 with 94 points, placing her 127th out of 158 competitors, including being 1 of only 3 women in the entire field.
Having a later start time on the Saturday meant an early rise for the Sunday trial with an 8:07 am start time. Carrie managed to stay in front all day and avoided any queuing on sections. There were lots more positives to take away from day 2, scoring another 3 perfect sections and plenty of good scores. Carrie finished day 2 with a score of 223, placing her in 123rd.
This is what Carrie had to say on her weekend:
“It was my 2nd year at the Manx, and it was redemption time after not being able to finish last year. Overall, I had a very positive day 1. Even with the heat, I had some class rides in some tough sections.
Carrie then went on to say:
“For day 2, I was the 6th rider to finish on the road and first of the girls to get back in on the solos. Very proud to be 1 of only 3 girls in over 200 solo riders competing, and even more proud to get the finish this year”.
It’s a busy few weeks ahead for Carrie with National trials as well as the British Championship coming up on her calendar. Next up for Carrie is the Reeth 3-day trial, taking place closer to home up in North Yorkshire.
