After a mixed performance last time out at Brands Hatch, Carl was hoping to make amends this time out in round 6 of the Quattro Group British Supersport championship at Thruxton.
Carl got his round underway on Friday morning in the first free practice session. Carl managed to complete 18 laps in the session, posting his fastest time on the 12th lap with a time of 1:20.906, only 3 seconds off the leader.
Carl and the team then got prepared for the qualifying session, with Carl in the first batch of the qualifying sessions. In the session, Carl managed 11 laps and posted a time of 1:19.336, placing 12th. Carl would then wait and see where on the grid he would start for the 12-lap sprint race.
After a short break from qualifying, Carl was ready for the sprint race and the first chance to score some championship points of the weekend. He started on the grid in 29th and made a good start, managing to hold his position well as well as maintaining good speed throughout the track. Unfortunately for Carl, on lap 8, Carl pushed just slightly too hard and tucked the front into the final chicane. Luckily, Carl and the bike came away unhurt and were ready for Sunday’s featured race.
Carl started the featured race 22nd on the grid due to his lap times from Saturday and was hopeful for a push into the scoring zone. It was a very stop-and-start race overall, with the first stoppage coming on lap 3 with a crash from the leaders. It then restarted as a 14-lap race, but again, was stopped 4 laps later due to another big crash. It then went ahead as a 9-lap race, but on the 2nd lap, a safety car was deployed to deal with another crash. Finally, on the 6th lap of the shortened race, it was stopped again, and the result was then declared. It meant Carl finished in 21st but only 3 seconds off of 11th. It did mean Carl was just outside the scoring zone and remains 24th in the championship standings with 4 points.
We’ll next see Carl in just over a week’s time for round 7 of the Quattro Group British Supersport championship, this time at Cadwell Park.
