A four-strong fundraising team from Lexelle have helped raise awareness and funds for men’s health by taking part in Movember.
After keeping the razor away from the top lip for the month of November, the Lexelle team were able to raise £250 for the charity through online donations and office collections.
James Savage, Dennis Langley, Harvey Harding and Chris Smart joined millions of other participants across the globe to help change the face of men’s health.
The moustachery on show left plenty to be desired but team captain Dennis Langley was pleased with the fundraising effort.
He said: “It’s a fairly easy way to raise funds for a very worthwhile cause. It was getting a bit itchy towards the end but it was good fun and definitely got people talking – which is the whole point.”
Movember started in Melbourne, Australia in 2003 with a few friends who wanted to bring back a past fashion trend – the
moustache.
That year, 30 guys participated but no money was raised. In 2004, amazed by the fun they had and the
conversations that were sparked, four of the 30 original members came together to make their Mo-growing an annual,
official charitable endeavor by adding an important cause – prostate cancer.
That year, 450 participants raised $43,000 AUD for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
Now in 2013, there are official Movember campaigns in 21 countries and in 2012 over £92 million was raised globally.
