After a few weeks off due to a concussion suffered at Donington Park in round 5, Tarran was back out on the track for round 8 of the World Superbike Championship, this time at Magny-Cours, France.
Saturday morning got off to a good start for Tarran with an 11th-placed finish in qualifying, which was his best of the season so far. Tarran came in with a 1’54.887, just under 3 seconds off of the leader.
The first race of the weekend got underway on Saturday afternoon with Tarran making another good start to the race. Things were going well for Tarran until the rain came along, meaning a rush to the pit and a change of tyres. The rain made things a lot tougher on the track, making certain parts slippery which is what caught Tarran out. On the 10th lap of Tarran’s race, his front tyre lost grip causing him to come off his bike and onto the track. Luckily, Tarran walked away uninjured but his bike was worse for wear.
Tarran got Sunday underway in race two but struggled to get into a rhythm and find a good pace due to the bike setup. Tarran had to settle with an 18th-placed finish and sadly outside of the scoring positions.
This is what Tarran had to say on his weekend:
“After a long layoff with concussion it was so good to be back with my team and on my bike in Magny Cours near Nevers in France. The weather was inconsistent which wasn’t a bad thing as I gradually got back up to speed on the MIE Honda. As it turned out I had my best qualifying of the season with an 11th position on the grid for Saturday’s wet race”.
Tarran then went on to say:
“Things were going well then everyone had to make a pit stop to change tyres when the heavens opened. I did lose time during the stop but was still heading for a strong top-ten finish when I lost front grip through the fast Nürburgring Chicane. Considering I hit the deck hard I walked away unscathed, but my bike wasn’t in such good shape. Sunday morning started good with third position in the warmup, but I struggled to find good pace with my dry set up so two top twenty positions was all I could muster”.
Tarran is back out on the track in 2 weeks at the Cremona Circuit, Italy for round 9 of the World Superbike Championship.
