First up for Rhys was the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in Assen, Netherlands. After a decent qualifying session, Rhys was P25. For the first race Rhys had a strong finish to end P18 with a time of 26’59.152. After a good start to race 2, Rhys was well in contention before a few mistakes near the end finished him in P19.
This is what Rhys had to say from his races in Assen: “An awesome weekend in Assen! The Friday at Assen was busy just like any other Friday at MotoGP with FP1, FP2, and qualifying all in the same day.
After learning the track and really enjoying the layout I was able to set some lap times for p25 on the grid.
Race 1 was very lonely as the group just up front was a little too fast I finished P19.
With a good finish in race 1 my confidence was high, and I was really looking forward to race 2, with a good start I kept with the group until the last few laps where a couple of mistakes dropped me off the back of the group I finished P18.”
Rhys was then back home in the UK for the British Talent Cup at Snetterton.
After a great qualifying session finishing P5, Rhys was really confident going into the opening race of the weekend. For the first race Rhys carried over that qualifying form finishing P6 with a time of 24:57.549. He also brought that confidence for race 2 as he beat race 1 time by almost 2 minutes and finishing P7.
Rhys will next be out on the bike on the 22nd of July at Brands Hatch, for the British Talent Cup.
