It was the penultimate round of the British Talent Cup for Rhys at Oulton Park where he’s trying to get those last few points to get him up in the championship standings.
Rhys started the weekend qualifying in 11th, with his quickest time being 1:49.109, only 2 seconds behind 1st.
Race one was short lived for Rhys as he was unable to complete the first lap, giving him a DNF.
In race 2, Rhys started the race in 17th but managed to get all the way up 9th. Rhys then made a small mistake near the end which pushed him back to 11th which is where he ended up finishing with a time of 21:52.551.
This is what Rhys had to say: “Combined free practice 1&2 coming in 5th place was pretty happy with that. Qualifying not so much, after starting on my “flying lap” I was held up by someone not adhering to the blue flags on track which messed the whole job up for me and on the final lap I made a small mistake so ended up in 11th”.
Rhys then went on to say: “Race one was pretty much a non-starter for me at least, unfortunately my output shaft bearing broke, and I was unable to complete even the first lap.
Race two, after not finishing a single lap in race one I had to be moved back 6 places on the grid so started the race in 17th, I knew I had my work cut out, being the heaviest rider on the BTC grid I lose so much time on the straights but I managed to get up to P9 at one point, but then out braked myself whilst trying to make a pass which sent me back to P11 which is where I finished.”
Going into the last weekend of racing at Donington Park in 2 weeks, Rhys sits 11th in the overall championship standings. Hopefully, with a good last weekend, Rhys can get himself into that top 10. Good luck Rhys!
