The McAMS Yamaha team has announced that Tarran Mackenzie will leave the team at the end of his current contract. With the 2021 BSB champion currently recovering from a broken femur, it effectively ends his involvement with the team immediately.
Tarran achieved ten wins and 19 podiums on his way to the 2021 title and had looked forward to defending his title in 2022. Before the season began though, he suffered a broken leg on two occasions – an early sign of what would become an injury-blighted season for the reigning champion. He still showed his tenacity and determination with an impressive comeback in July, which sparked a recovery that produced three wins and nine podium finishes. This put Tarran back among the title contenders, before his season took another cruel and unexpected twist with a broken femur at Oulton Park in September.
Tarran leaves McAMS with the respect and gratitude of the whole team, with Team Principal Steve Rodgers commenting: “It’s been an incredible six years and we’re incredibly proud of what he has achieved as part of this team. It’s been a whirlwind few years with a lot of highs and some lows, but regardless of the situation, Tarran’s speed and sheer tenacity can never be questioned. He’s one of the most talented, fearless riders to have ridden in BSB in recent times and it’s been a privilege to work with him for so long.”
We’re delighted to have played our part in Tarran’s success on the track as a sponsor and we look forward to supporting him in what he does next. Watch this space for further news on Tarran’s plans.
